glad u got 1, hope ur doing well!!!, I’m on a liberty machine myself since may 3 2011 then a friend passed away a week later and his mom donated one of his kidneys 2 me, but the kidney died within 8 hours, thank god was put back on the donor’s list where I was already and NOT as a new patient AGAIN cuz that would of SUCK. been doing PD 4 awhile now and once I get a kidney I’ll get a pancreas transplant too and then NO MORE diabetes after 41 years! b well-Peter
LUCKY!!! i get 6 bags a night…… and i don’t use the spike cassets anymore…. im very glade you got a transplant though
i just got on the list. 16 years old, and on this for 3 almost 4 years.
Congrats Mark!
Im 25yo male. been doing dialysis for 2months now, if im honest i hate doing it but keeps me alive so gotta be done! thanks for sharing the video! shows what we have to do everynight, i do it for 9 hours every night :/
Just a quick update to those who see these videos and are curious how I am doing… as of 6/11 I am almost 2.5 years post transplant and doing great. My donor is also doing great.
I am so glad that these videos have helped to show the process of PD to potential patients. I wish everyone the best!
Im a 17 yr old male, I do this everynight for 9 hours man, its tough man, but im getting through it, and im optismistic for my transplant. I have the same machine too lol DRAIN FILL, DRAIN FILL i hate it lol
Thank you for this, Mark and Jenna. It has been very helpful to me as I get closer to the need for PD.
What do you mean my life will be short.Im 28 now so how long?
@99bren That’s interesting because over here in the UK, your asleep for the surgery, and the average treatment time is 8 hours.
@Paracuarogto1 Peritoneal is better for your life expectancy.
@Omega666Evil Why wait till you are dying? The longer you are on dialysis the shorter your life expectancy will be due to the strains on the heart. Receive a kidney as soon as you can. I was given a kidney by my half-brother 3 1/2 months ago. You forget that it is someone elses kidney pretty quickly. I was on dialysis for 4 1/2 years and I forgot what it was like to feel slightly normal, tired all the time and pale. I feel like a new person.
@angieskidney I will be starting cycler in a month or so- thanx for video
Thanks for sharing your video, tonight was my 3 year old son’s first PD at home. He did 10 cycles and is sound asleep. It’s 4:50AM and I would like people to please visit his site at rayarodriguez.blogspot .com

Hi Mark. my boyfriend has been on dialysis for about 3 months now. His social worker suggested PD. Thank you for posting the videos. He hasnt seen them yet but it does give me an idea of the what will be done if he decides to do it. How long were you on the list before your transplant became available? He hasnt been put on the list yet but we are still wondering. Thank you again and I hope you are doing well.
Mark… First, I thank God for you putting these videos on because it soothed many of my fears when I first watched them months ago. Now my GFR is 14 and it is time for dialysis. On Tuesday I go for my consult with the surgeon to set up for my pd cath. I’m not afraid anymore, thank God. I will ask my family to watch your videos so they will also know what to expect. Thank You and Good Luck!!!!!
Oh about the transplant. Not scared to get one just don’t want somebody else’s kidney in me.Only if I’m dying will I get one.So can anybody give me good tips?
I got kidney failure 2 years ago and still doing pd. Can you go on forever without getting a transplant? My body is weird sometimes I feel great other days I feel weak. This includes me getting all my exchanges in but still feel bad..Can I get on disability for this or struggle to work when it kills me.
Hi this is Mark, I am the guy in the video
1.5 years post transplant now and I feel great. I am so glad to see that these videos have helped give a better understanding of the process of PD. I am always open to answering questions, so just email me through youtube. Remember the best advice will always come from your Nephrologist or a PD Center. A couple bits of info: my treatment was 8 hours a night, showers only, no baths, and I was asleep during catheter surgery!
Cheers to health! Mark
I have done both kinds of dyalisis and i think hemo works better but peritoneal is more convinient, i just got a second transplant 3 weeks ago so if i ever had to go back i would choose peritoneal
people always ask me if I can feel it but I can’t.
It depends on the person how much fluid you carry.
I am 5″3 about 110lbs and I carry 1000mL during the day.
While I am on the machine I also can’t feel it. I never know if I’m filling, draining, or dwelling… except on the last drain I get a bit of drain pain (which is when the machine is trying to take fluid out but I am empty so I get a pulling feeling). Not everyone has drain pain though.
I got my tube in on July 30th and I have never had a bath… but I am assuming I can.
After the surgery you can’t shower (or have a bath) for 4 weeks.
When you shower you don’t cover it so that way it gets clean, but I use packing tape and tape it to my stomache so its not just hanging (because it is really heavy and it tugs a bit).
The only time you cover it is when you go swimming (mainly to protect it from getting stuck on things).
Also, during the day you always have fluid in you and
How about when you take a bath? Do you cover the entry point with something?
